The Job: The Government and Foundation Giving Coordinator provides administrative and development support to the Government and Foundation Giving team. This role supports a broad variety of fundraising, prospecting, and government-related tasks with a high-level of professionalism and flexibility and maintains a balance among multiple projects and priorities. The person in this position must be results-driven, a competent writer, and have a passion for learning and supporting all aspects of fundraising. This position will focus on cultivating and soliciting new donor prospects but has the potential to grow into a role where they will steward a portfolio of foundation donors. 

Responsibilities:

Fundraising Support

  • Prepares outgoing mail and correspondence, including hard-copy and web-based; email, letters, event mailings, stewardship, acknowledgments. Supports Government and Foundation Giving Director in composing and editing correspondence, proposals, reports, and other documents.
  • Provides logistical support in submission of all grant proposals and reports.
  • Provides prospect research support to identify new donors (eCivis, Foundation Directory, etc.).
  • Work with data team on special requests (board connections).
  • Prepares donor briefings, PowerPoint presentations and other items as needed.
  • Arrange and coordinate donor site-visits and meetings.
  • Manage and maintain Raiser’s Edge records for Foundation and Government donors and prospects, including entering donor activity actions and maintaining proposal pipeline.
  • Utilizes Raiser’s Edge database to pull reports on Foundation and Government donor activities.
  • Maintains calendar of key donor-related dates and events.
  • Coordinates gift processing for Foundation and Government Giving.
  • Supports the Director of Government and Foundation Giving in efforts to makes possible government-related partnerships to support MSI’s strategic goals, for both advocacy and fundraising priorities. 
  • Works closely across departments to keep updated on current programs and funding priorities for proposal and reporting purposes.

Administrative Coordination

  • Manage logistical elements of any department-related events and site visits, including acting as point person across departments.
  • Work with finance department to request and prepare budgets and financial documents for proposals, applications and reports.
  • Reads and routes incoming mail.
  • Orders and maintains department supplies.
  • Coordinates purchase order process, prepares and processes invoices and expense reports.
  • Acts as a liaison with other MSI divisions and outside vendors as necessary.
  • Handles other administrative duties and special projects as assigned.
  • Supports other areas of External Affairs as necessary (events, mailings, etc.).

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and three (3) to five (5) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Attention to detail and ability to maintain highly confidential information
  • Strong communication skills required, especially professional written communication, including ability to edit documents effectively for errors and fluency
  • Demonstrated high level of professionalism
  • Passion for science education and MSI’s mission
