The Job: This individual will research, conceptualize, and design work to support the Museum’s internal communications, publications and marketing collateral efforts.


  • Design event invitations and program books, internal and external signage and banners, newsletters, press kits, Museum maps, marketing program collateral (coupons, point-of-purchase displays, etc.).
  • Work with Design Communications Manager and project editors to develop necessary plans, associated budgets and production schedules.
  • Serve as liaison to Museum vendors, evaluating resources and making recommendations for adjustment as necessary.
  • Serve as liaison to other Museum divisions to identify new design projects and manage the project development and production process.
  • Serve as liaison to Museum exhibit design staff to steward the Museum’s brand identity and image.
  • Manage budgets for all related projects and secures estimates for all related work. 
  • Develop concepts and participate in creative critiques, provide constructive feedback as part of a style guide team and assist Design Communications Manager and project editors in preparing recommendations for all strategic activity.
  • When needed, will photograph, edit and retouch images of guests, events, exhibits and objects for use in collateral materials, web and media.
  • Maintain and index archives of design work and Museum images for internal and external use.


  • All applicants must include a digital portfolio with their application. Applications without an online portfolio will not be considered. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Photography or Visual Arts a plus.
  • Three (3) years of print graphic design and project management experience within a marketing or communications environment required.
  • Strong collaborator who works well independently or on team projects.
  • High level of initiative and exceptional problem solving skills.
  • Experience in print coordination, including selecting appropriate paper and ink, obtaining print quotes, reviewing proofs, attending press checks and maintaining strong vendor relationships.
  • Strong organization skills and ability to balance multiple simultaneous projects, implement feedback from multiple sources and meet tight deadlines.
  • Basic photographic composition skills and experience with DSLR Cameras. Experience with studio lighting a plus.
  • Ability to develop strong, interpersonal relationships with diplomacy and flexibility.
  • Excellent typography and layout skills with solid understanding of graphic design principles, history and methods.
  • Skilled in designing for digital media, including creating assets for large websites, email campaigns and digital advertising campaigns.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud software (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Bridge), Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Experience with CSS and HTML helpful.
  • Experience developing and maintaining brand identities a plus.
  • Drawing and illustration skills a plus.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
